A deckle or hand-torn edge can add a look of elegance or handmade charm to a piece. Though there are many ways to create a deckle edge, the easiest is with a deckle edge ruler. Simply hold the ruler flat against the sheet and pull the paper towards the ruler edge. Most deckle-edge rulers have two sides; one for a softer edge, and one for a deeper edge. A regular metal ruler will work as well, it just creates a less pronounced deckle edge.
